Awareness
AWARENESS
Awareness is a state of being conscious. It is having a sensory perception of the reality of the moment, as perceived through our five senses, without thought, interpretation or analysis.
Awareness can also relate to the feeling or intuition that accompanies our sensory experience, such as awareness of self.
In this blog and my book, Joyful Eating: How to Break Free of Diets and Make Peace with Your Body, when I talk about awareness, it is mostly with respect to the sensory input we receive. In the book, I refer to this awareness as sensing what is.
A Joyful Eating moment is a practice of awareness, as our full attention is on the food before us, and all self-deprecating thoughts, food rules and to-do lists fade away as we experience the joy of eating. A Joyful Eating moment is time to pause and be fully aware of the sensory experience of eating and our body.
